Dolphin Cay (pronounced ‘key’) is an interactive marine mammal habitat. It is one of the largest marine habitats in the world. There are many activities to choose from such as; paddle-board or kayaking with the dolphins, trainer for the day, behind-the-scenes tours, or getting up close with sea lions. There is also a beactrainingh right in the heart of all of the activities at the cay. If you choose not to schedule a paid activity, you can purchase a day pass at their small beach to sit and observe the animals. It is a great place to take the kids if they are too young or a bit timid around the animals.

We choose to kayak with the dolphins. I do recommend if you are planning to visit Atlantis, you schedule these activities before you arrive at the resort as they do tend to fill up quickly. They only allow a handful of people or a group at a time, depending on the interaction you choose.
We purposely arrived a few minutes early. While waiting our turn, it was so peaceful to grab a lounge chair by the pool and watch the other families enjoy their experience and the dancing of the dolphins in the water. They are so majestic and were a great way to relax. I love those moments where you can just shut off your mind and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings.

Before getting into our kayaks the trainer went through their rules and what to expect during our 15 min swim time. Each activity is in a small pool, so they are not taking you into the ocean. It was very easy to steer the two seated kayaks we were in, even if you have never kayaked before. There were 3 dolphins in the area with us swimming around.

if you are looking to just relax and interact with the mammals, I would look at a different adventure package. The kayaks were fun and you get close to the dolphins, but I found having to constantly maneuver around another party in the experience that was struggling with steering their kayak. Which I could see being common. Also, you had to constantly steer to not hit the edge and be in motion.
You are not allowed to touch the dolphins but you can kayak right next to them. The dolphins did not always cooperate with coming right up next to you, so the trainers were great in pulling our kayak over to the side and encouraging the dolphin (with fish) to come up to them so we could get a close-up view. They are so majestic and it was so cool to have them right next to you. They also had a professional photographer taking pictures. Of course, you can purchase them afterward (and they are not inexpensive). I think we spent $250 on our selection of 5 photos. But the shots were amazing, as you can see in this post.

Overall, it was such a fun experience. Next time, I would like to do the ‘up close and personal’ where you can touch the dolphins. Tell me about your experiences with the interactive Dolphin Cay at the Atlantis?
Cheers,
Lisa
