Dinner with a Sunset over the Harbor

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

This is one of my top 3 favorite dining experiences I have ever had, and it was at Harbourfront restaurant in Bermuda. Harbourfront is located in the city of Hamilton. Which also happens to host Harbour Nights a weekly festival held every Wednesday during the summer.

Harbor Nights

We started our night by exploring Harbor Nights in Hamilton. Harbor Nights is a festival that runs every Wednesday during the summer from 7-10 pm on Front street. If you did not rent a car you can grab a taxi. We did not try anything as we had dinner reservations.

TIP: Taxis book quickly on Harbor nights, so plan ahead. Contact your hotel that morning or the night before to make them aware of your plans and what options they provide. A lot of resorts will have a scheduled shuttle already going into town for the festival, but you have to reserve your spot ahead of time. That goes for your return trip back to your resort too.

The street is blocked off for the local vendors to set up tables, their bars are lively, and there's a band and a handful of food trucks set up along the water Two of the local favorites are fish chowder and a fish sandwich.

The buildings in Bermuda are pastel colors mixed with white surrounded by water. It is also safe to walk around in the city. Just be aware of your surroundings and your belongings anytime you travel. But the crime rate is very low in Bermuda and any crime that does occur is rarely against tourists. The locals are educated and incredibly friendly and value tourism to support their economy.

Hamilton is also a port for cruise ships. You may want to check the days for port as they tend to get busy with cruise ship visitors. I tried to find a current port schedule but with cruises just recently opening back up there was not a current one. You can ask when you arrive at your resort or your cab driver on your ride from the airport if you want to avoid that traffic.

You can walk to Harbourfront restaurant from Front street as it is on the same road. It is about a 15-minute walk. I was in heels and there happened to be a couple of cabs parked at the entrance of Harbor nights so we opted for the short ride instead.

The restaurant itself is located right on the water. When you step through the gates you immediately see the beautiful harbor with the boats and pastel-colored homes.

the views

There are two levels to the outdoor area, the lower level has unobstructed views, No railing that is blocking your water view. As the hostess walked us to our outdoor table, the views kept getting better. We had the table at the very end. As I sat, I kept repeating WOW, WOW. I could not stop smiling. I told Dave this was a tie for my toes in the sand dinner in Aruba. The view and dining experience were magical. I felt like it was just the two of us there.

WOW, were the words I used when the hostess escorted us to our table.

Watching the sunset over the water and the boats while dining was beautiful. And you can get this experience from many of the other tables on the patio. The restaurant is also away from the city so it is very peaceful. It is just you and the fish.

I have also started putting Dave to work, having him pose, and taking a few pictures of me for the blog. He is being such a great sport. But isn't this a great picture of him?

The food

The wonderful woman I met at the Rosewood Beach Club pool, (see my other Bermuda post), asked where we were having dinner in Hamilton and when I mentioned this spot she immediately said this is where she would have recommended as this is where they bring visitors too as well. It's the best spot in the city. She also said I should try the sushi as it's amazing here!

As you may know, I am hooked on Yellowtail Jalapeno, thank you Dave, and Nobu for this tasty introduction. As a result, when I visit somewhere, it is a must order for me.

TIP: When this item is not on the menu of the restaurant I am dining at, I do ask the waitress if the sushi chef can make it for me. Sometimes I get lucky, typically it's if they understand the ask and have the jalapeno.

Harbourfront restaurant was familiar with the Yellowtail Jalapeno menu item and was able to accommodate. A hint though...if you do not like spicy, make sure the seeds are removed from the slice of jalapeno before you take a bite. I like a little kick with the crispness of my sushi, but I do not want to ruin my pallet for enjoying the rest of the meal and my wine pairing. The best part of this dish is the tuna was a fresh catch for the day! YUM!!!!!!

I am also a huge fan of dim sum, especially pot stickers. Their appetizer is a sampler of pork, veggie, and shrimp. It was very good. It is shareable, but I would recommend having it all on your own and the rest of your party ordering something else. :)

I highly recommend when traveling somewhere by water you ask what the fresh catch or fish local to the area. Even if you are not a huge fish fan, local, fresh fish in a cooked well just may change your mind. It has changed mine in many cases.

Dave had the lobster, unfortunately, post menopause (anyone else's body completely rearranged their life) my body does not enjoy shellfish like it used to. On a side note, I never had any allergies or any problem with any food whatsoever. What the HECK! Very annoying, but I digress. I did have a bite of the lobster and it was cooked perfectly. Probably one of the best I have tasted. Although lobster in Boston is pretty dang special.

I had the wahoo fish. I enjoyed it so much at Rosewood in a ceviche, I had to try it for the main course. It is a drier, meatier fish, which I like. So the waitress recommended it lightly breaded and fried vs grilled. It was delicious and you can see from the picture, that it was very lightly breaded. So the fish itself was not masked. Our meal was fabulous!

don't let the name fool you

Now for dessert. Dessert after dinner is not always a must for me. It has to be something really good or unique. I have a serious sweet tooth but it's extremely important to me to live a healthy lifestyle. I already work out I don't want to have to work harder. I work out because of how good it makes me feel, my energy level, getting rid of toxins, being healthy longer now that I am older and of course, so I can eat LOL. And we all know after 40 sugar doesn't slide off you as well as it did when you were younger. But I also want to enjoy life, so I have found a balance that works for me. Beauty is all about how you feel inside, not how others see you. You have to be happy with yourself girl! Hugs!

The dessert on the menu was called Chocolate Truffle. Normally, I would skip a chocolate truffle because it tends to be a bit bitter and has a consistency that I normally do not enjoy. But we asked the server to describe the chocolate truffle and to me, it sounded more like a molten lava cake, which I fully support

Ok, it was delicious, like a lava cake. If you also have a sweet tooth. Give this one a try when you are there.

TIP: If you need to grab a taxi back to your resort make sure to ask your waiter to order one at the same time you get your dessert. It can take a few minutes to get a taxi, especially on Harbor Nights.

The sun was setting while we were eating dessert. The light was amazing but dark for food pics

feeding the fish

The cutest part of the night was at the end. The waiter came to clear our table and told us we could feed the fish with our leftover bread. So....hint save as much of your bread as you can. Those fish were hungry! I have a couple of videos of it on my Instagram Highlights for Bermuda. It was so fun and they were quick!

Tell me in the comments what your wanting to try when you go to Harbourfront?

Cheers,

Lisa
