When you find the one..cocktail that is

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

The Conservatory Bar & Lounge is wonderful. I scoped this place out prior to my trip and knew I would be there several times. The lighting, the view, and a couple of key items on the menu put this top of my list to try while visiting Bermuda and staying at the Rosewood Tuckers Point Hotel.

The bar is located right off the lobby of the hotel and is so cute. I was already hungry when we arrived at the hotel. So as soon as we unpacked, we had to kick off our trip with a cocktail and a snack before exploring. The Conservatory was our first stop.

The entrance of the lounge is narrow but it has amazing light and french doors at each table that open up for a gorgeous view of the water and a great breeze. Great spot for all your IG moments.

The air conditioning is not blasting. It is very comfortable.

Ladies, you can leave those sweaters at home. No need to layer here.

This lounge is beautiful. There are bar stools if you prefer to be front and center with the bartender. There are also several tables right when you walk in and on the other side of the bar, there are comfy couch areas. The bartenders and wait staff were so friendly and attentive. It was never crowded when we went in July and the temperature was very comfortable. They had the air on, but unlike in the U.S. where you need a parka to eat at a restaurant, I was very comfortable in tank tops and sleeveless dresses.

COCKTAILS & BITES

Do you scope out menus before you visit a place? I do. I usually have in mind a couple of things that I want to try before I arrive, but I also ask the waitress for their recommendations? NOT the most popular, that may lead you astray. Just because it's popular and ordered once, does not mean it's the best.

Always ask what is the must-have or house specialty must-have and why is it the best?

Sometimes a menu item description sounds great or not so great, but it tastes fabulous! And not everyone's taste is the same so I want to hear their take and then make my own decisions.

When I inquired about cocktails, she recommended the dark and stormy and the Ariel as two of the most popular. Dave ordered the Ariel. It was very light, not too sweet or too dry. Great pool cocktail I would say. But it did not have that wow factor for me. Very subtle taste. The Bermudian Berry was not one she recommended but it is mulled berries and very much intrigued me with the egg white and I know I love fresh berry cocktails.

Bermudian Berry Cocktail

I was immediately hooked on the Bermudian Berry and even said to Dave that this would be my cocktail for the week! I was in love. The egg white was a foam at the top of the drink and that added to the experience. It was incredibly light, fresh and flavorful but not sweet or dry. Just right! I could taste the berry but not the alcohol. But they also did not skimp on the alcohol if you know what I mean. LOL

To give you a sense of my taste in cocktails. I typically drink a Cabernet but in the summer I love a Sauvignon Blanc. I stick to very light cocktails when I have them. I love a good marg or mojito but I do NOT love a sweet cocktail. I tend towards light and fresh fruit vs a mix.

The Bermuda fritters were sooooo good that I also ordered them from the pool bar. LOL I think I had them once a day. They did NOT taste like they were fried. They were so light and the compote was a delicious pairing!!

TIP: Most of the bites from the conservatory lounge are avail on the main/large pool bar menu (at the hotel pool). BUT the drink menu is completely different. I tried to order the Bermudian berry at the pool but it was not available.

Above are the pool food and drink menus to give you a sense of how things are different.

Look at the cute delivery containers at the pool bar.

Sidenote: Also, one thing I noticed is there are no gnats in Bermuda. I have been to other places, aka Bahamas where it was hard to eat outside at the pool because there were so many gnats. I did not have those problems at any point here. Also stay tuned for a post this weekend or early next week. I will do a comparison of Aruba vs Bahamas and Bermuda.

For the record we had dinner reservations pretty soon after both nights we stopped at the lounge, so we kept our order light. There were other items on the menu I wanted to try. For example; We wanted to try the Bang, bang shrimp and The fish chowder is a specialty on the island, restaurants compete on who has the best.

Here are what we ordered and my favorites:

Bites:

  • Bermuda Fritters ****

    • Tuckers Farm Goat Cheese, Onion Ginger Jam

  • Cheese Plate

    • Walnut Bread, Grapes, Orange Marmalade

  • Meatballs

Cocktails:

  • Ariel

    • The Botanist Gin, St. Germain, Lemon Juice, Vanilla Syrup, and Peach Bitters

  • *Bermudian Berry***

    • Whitley Neill Rhubarb Ginger Gin, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, Fresh Blackberries, Egg White

Gin is a new thing in Bermuda. I speak a little bit about it in my other post about Bermuda as well as in greater length in my IG Insta Reels & Highlights.

The fruit on the cheese plate was so fresh and delicious, as well as the jam! I also enjoy trying cheeses from other countries and the cheese was really good!

There is another bar at the hotel, called Tuckers Bar. It is small and at the entrance of Island Brasserie on the 2nd floor. There is not an outdoor seating area and it has a darker look to it. It feels more like a hard liquor bar. Lots of dark wood. . It is also the location where you can stop and grab a cup of coffee to go in the morning. We went there for a rum tasting (which I also talk about in another post) and was definitely worth putting on your agenda. Let's just say after the tasting and education I am a huge Gosling fan. Ask Cayman why when he does your tasting!

AN ENGLISH AFTERNOON TEA

Did you know Bermuda is still part of the UK. So when in Rome..... or an English colony. I do love tea and also anything that is a culture experience for the area I am visiting. Dave was not as enthused going into the tea experience as I was. LOL

The tea, was just ok. Of course I had to take it english style with milk, which I kinda liked. But the bites that came with it were very yummy. Sometimes in an afternoon tea the little sandwiches that accompany the service are just ok and typically the same thing in every establishment. These were very creative and unique. Take a look at the menu below the pictures.

Plus the presentation of the ice cream notes, I mean how cute is that!!

Favorites were:

  • Savory: Cucumber (it was really good and a bit different), Beetroot & goat cheese, Roast beef & horseradish, Yellowfin tuna (it was a fresh catch!!!)

  • Sweet: The jam and butter on the scone was delicious. It was better with the plain scone than the flavored scone. The strawberry tarte and lemon meringue pie were also both delicious!!

The best was hearing Dave say at the end, he really enjoyed it and thought the bites were very good. Neither of us were wow'd by the tea. But it was something cute to do together and a new experience for us. It was very fun and the staff was so delightful!

Let me know in the comments what your favorite bite or cocktail from the Conservatory Lounge is?

Cheers,

Lisa
